Metatrader – I trust the platform.

Many of you are familiar with the Metatrader and use it just like me with trust and success for years. But how does it come to pass that such a simple yet powerful application is developed? The story behind it is not known to many and here I would like to give you an overview of why it is no coincidence that we use MT:

History and development of MetaTrader: MetaTrader 4 (MT4):

Development: MT4 was developed by MetaQuotes Software Corp and released in 2005. Purpose: The platform was designed specifically for the forex market and enabled users to trade, perform technical analysis, and use automated trading strategies with Expert Advisors. Popularity: MT4 gained popularity quickly due to its user-friendliness, adaptability, and the powerful programming language MQL4, which allowed users to create their own indicators and EAs. Platform: It is a desktop application that runs on Windows systems, with some options for mobile and web versions. MetaTrader 5 (MT5):

Development: MT5 was introduced in 2010 as a successor to MT4. Expansions: MT5 offered additional features such as trading CFDs, stocks, and futures, an improved programming language (MQL5), more indicators, timeframes, and an integrated economic calendar. Differences from MT4: MT5 has a different architecture and is not backwards compatible with MT4, meaning that MT4 EAs and indicators cannot be transferred to MT5 without difficulty. Adoption: MT5 has gained popularity more slowly than MT4, partly due to the large user base of MT4 and the initial inability to support hedging (which was later added). Further developments: Updates: MetaQuotes has released continuous updates and new features for both platforms. Mobile apps: Both MT4 and MT5 have mobile applications for Android and iOS. Web versions: Web-based versions of both platforms are available, which require no download or installation. Future of MetaTrader: MetaQuotes has officially stopped development and support for MT4, to encourage users to switch to MT5. MT5 will continue to be updated with new features and integrations to meet the needs of modern traders. My Pro tip: The choice between MT4 and MT5 ultimately depends on the trader’s specific needs, including the type of instruments to be traded, the desired features, and the preferred type of trading (manual or automated). I can still recommend the MT4 to you if you are still trading old EAs successfully. If you are starting anew, then use the MT5!
